A franglaise in Madame Figaro.

I’m excited to share with you that today, little me appeared in Madame Figaro – a French fashion magazine. I was interviewed for this article back in September but with my busy bee life, I had completely forgotten it was due to be released round about now (thanks Kenza for texting me this morning!). The magazine will be available in newspaper agents as of tomorrow but in the meantime the full article (in French) can be read here. I’ll be going down to my local newsagent first thing tomorrow morning to stock up on a zillion few copies of “almost famous me”.

Hope you are all set to have a lovely weekend, my dears. We are a babyless since yesterday so tonight we are going for drinks, dinner and a movie; tomorrow, we are having a house party to celebrate my 29th wrinkle and I can’t wait to boogie on the dance floor.

Paris vs. New York.

These illustrations by Vahram Muratyan remind me of my first (and only) trip to New York City. I went in spring 2000 with a friend. We were students and drove 12 hours to get there because we could not afford to fly. Little did we realise it would be so expensive when we arrived (I remember paying $15 for a cup of coffee and slice of cake). We ended up staying 36 hours and driving back. Crazy. The kind of thing you only do when you're 18. Back then I swore I would go back right after uni. That was a decade ago and I still have no concrete plans of visiting the big apple. I need to see to that, especially now that I have a mini-me and that NYC sounds like a rather baby-friendly city.

TGIF.

It is 9:45 p.m and I have just got back from work. I have no words to describe how relieved I am it is the weekend. Finally.

And while I was at the office, here's what baby L. had for dinner. Clearly, it was time I came home.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Mine is going to be a short one as I am travelling for work on Sunday already. Huh.

ps: thank you for all your lovely comments yesterday. I will have to put my hands on that rocking horse.

Dinner in the sky.

Ever wondered how to turn an ordinary meal into a culinary adventure? Try dinner in the sky.com.

Pretty dreamy, eh? If I could choose, I would have dinner in the Brazilian skies overlooking Rio de Janeiro.

Where would you have your table with a view?

London?

Italy?

Toronto?

South Africa?

Monaco?

Istanbul?

All of the above (eh, why not? we're allowed to dream!)?

Weekend in bed.

There was I, not understanding why I was so exhausted earlier this week until Friday came along and I just couldn't make it out of bed and off to work. It was a nasty throat infection. And by that time it was too late, I had passed my germs onto to baby L. So we've both spent the weekend caughing, sneezing, not eating, with fever, the lot. It's been horrible. And I'm already wondering how we are going to get through the day tomorrow, me at work and him with the child minder. Being sick reminds me of how much I want summer to stay and winter to never come... brrr!

Timeless photo booth.

I am so busy at work this week - and for obvious reasons, even busier when I come - that I've had no time for blogging. Let's face it, I hardly even have time to sleep these days. Today was baby L.'s first full-time day with the child minder: nine hours in total. It makes me sad to have to leave him with a "stranger" for so many long hours and nostalgic about my days on maternity leave when the two of us would hang out together all day long. Anyway, I came here to say I will not be able to keep my promise and post about all his wonderful prezzies this week. I will do so the next instead. In the meantime, I leave you with our fun photobooth pics taken on Tuesday. Bye for now x

August in Paris.

Paris in August

Appart from having to walk 10 minutes every evening to buy my baguette because our local boulangerie is closed, it is blissfully peaceful around here...

Mila's Daydreams.

I discovered a wonderful blog earlier this week called Mila's Daydreams. New mum, Adele, imagines her baby's dreams and snaps a shot them while she is napping. How dreamy!

Angus & Julia Stone.

I had already heard their music on the radio but never actually put a name to the melody until I read about Angus and Julia Stone on Kenza Lab, my friend’s great blog. I read the post in the morning, spent the afternoon listening to their MySpace and by the evening I had two tickets in my pocket for their gig in Paris on 29 November. I can't wait.

e-Living.

It is quite scary to see how dependent we are on computers these days. On Tuesday, life at the office came to a halt as we experienced a sudden power cut. Clearly, we live in an era where an office does not function without PCs, let alone without electricity. One fine example is simply the fact of not having any windows in our toilets at work, meaning that whoever had nature calling that afternoon had to do their business in pitch black or simply “bottle it”. And speaking of bottle, no water was available either as the vending machines were obviously down and so was our water fountain (which I found out, is powered by electricity). After an hour of twisting our thumbs at our desks, an announcement was finally made asking everyone to evacuate the premises because the power would not be fixed until another couple of hours. As the thousands of employees made their way out the building, it was amazing to notice how quiet the office actually was with all the machines on ‘off’. I realised, we work in an environment polluted by computers, printers, photocopiers, air con and the likes, and that on a daily basis we don’t even notice any of this machinery overuse. It makes you wonder how people managed before technology took over our day to day and whether in the end, it really does improve our quality of life.

Métro, boulot, dodo.

métro

dodo

Baby L. is nannyless this week so we have been commuting to and fro Paris every day and it is ex-haus-ting. The alarm goes off at at 5:45 a.m. and then it is two hours of bus -> train -> walk -> métro -> walk -> change métro -> more walk before finally getting to work. I admire people who have the courage to do this every single day. I just couldn't. It had already crossed our minds to buy a house à la campagne but after experiencing the joys of a daily commuter, I realise I prefer living in my teeny weeny flat in Paris than doing this. Lucky enough, we are summer commuters so by the time we get home the days are not over. And I have to say, it is blissful to return from a hard day's work and be able to sit in the garden and enjoy the evening sunshine and tranquility.

Less is more.

I came across Anna's blog today and I love how she and her hubbby tied the knot - DIY invitations, an intimate garden ceremony, a casual wedding dress, 25 guests, home-made food, a self-decorated reception hall, party hats and a pretty 24 week belly bump. Simple but so charming.

Cuppa Tea.

tea please
photo © C. Tyler

I stopped in a café yesterday afternoon for a warm cup of tea because it was ever so cold and rainy out. But when it comes to drinking tea, France still has much to learn. I don't know why I am fussy about this, but I like it when my tea comes in a big tea pot with a side of cold milk as opposed to it being served in a mug with a side hot milk. It's on grim rainy days like today when I miss England and long for a proper English cuppa tea (and a couple of HobNobs to go with it)!

Baby massage.

When I went to l'Espace Weleda a couple of weeks ago, my baby radar (which is way too efficient these days) detected a workshop on how to massage babies. Of course, it did not take long before I decided to sign up for it.

I went last Friday with my friend Aurélie whose son is just three days older than baby L. During one full hour, an experienced physiotherapist showed us several different techniques to effectively massage our wee(ing!) ones, including 10 min of baby exercises. Our bubs were so calm and relaxed after the workshop, they spent most of the afternoon sleeping. What better effect could you wish for?! If you are interested in viewing some of the techniques, Weleda has developed this useful online guide. All Weleda products are 100% natural, therefore unharmful for babies, as well as pregnant and nursing mothers. The workshop is a little clostly (EUR 50) but definitely worth it. Not only are you tought effective methods to massage your little one which are easy repeat at home but you come out with a happy and comforted baby.
